IoT modules – the Internet of Things closer to the user

Internet of Things (IoT) is a new, fast-growing business trend all over the world. Increasingly popular use of electronics and Internet connections in everyday life, extends the demand for new hardware platforms. Following the global trends, Unisystem has introduced IoT specialized modules to its portfolio.

Currently, we have on market a very wide offer regarding the IoT hardware, so it is more and more difficult to choose the right solution. Embedded systems such as Is.IoT MX6UL (serial number ENG-MOD.IOT.MX6UL.128M.256M) by Engicam and LiteSOM (serial number GRN-GLS11.2.053.2.2.E) by Grinn are user-friendly and comprehensive IoT devices.

Is.IoT MX6UL firmy Engicam

The Is.IoT MX6UL module includes a complete computer system chipset with NXP iMX6 Ultra Lite microcontroller. The device is equipped with 256 MB DDR3 RAM and optionally with 256 MB NAND or 4 GB eMMC. Modules programming is greatly facilitated by a complete BSP (Board Support Package) which is based on the Yocto system. The package contains all the necessary tools for configuring and building applications. Connection with the Internet is via wireless interfaces such as Bluetooth 2.1 and 4.1 (BLE) and Wi-Fi in IEEE 802.11 b/g/n standard. The Engicam module is a device designed to maximally faciliate the user’s work in the early stages of programming and prototype development

LiteSOM firmy Grinn

Another worthnoting proposition of the device used in the Internet of Things applications is the LiteSOM module designed by the Polish company – Grinn. The device is built in SODIMM standard with 128MB DDR3 RAM and 256 MB NAND on board. Grinn constructors discarded the wireless communication interfaces in this module, since it was originally a minimalistic processor system. The advantage of this solution is that the constructor himself decides about the systems used to implement the wireless communication. In addition, PCB liteSOM is a connector itself, what significantly lowers the module’s cost.

Streamlined design, faster application

The market of ready-made processor solutions is constantly growing, giving the opportunity to skip the toughest design stage – creating a powerful processor chip. The use of ready-made, well-considered and tested solutions becomes more and more common in the industry, faciliating the design process and allowing to launch faster on the market a ready-made application.
